Arise Again: Your Worth Has Not Changed

Scripture study: Genesis 1:26–27; Psalm 139:13–18; Proverbs 24:15–16
From the book: Arise Again, Chapter 1 — Your Worth Has Not Changed.

Key truth: A broken promise can damage your plans, but it cannot erase the dignity God gives you.

A relationship may end, a trusted person may misuse money, or an expected future may disappear. Such losses can make a person question not only what happened, but who they are. Yet another person’s betrayal is not a final judgment on your worth. Scripture grounds human dignity in God’s creation, not in someone else’s approval.

Separate facts from self-condemnation

It is useful to review decisions we made and identify what we would do differently. It is not useful to take responsibility for another person’s deception or cruelty. Write three clear statements: What happened? What was within my control? What did the other person choose? Truthful reflection creates space for learning without humiliation.

Give grief its proper place

Christian courage is not the demand to smile immediately. Grief may involve sadness, anger, confusion or interrupted plans. Psalm 139 reminds believers that God knows them deeply; it does not erase the need for human care. A trusted friend, pastoral counsellor or qualified professional can help when pain becomes overwhelming.

Build a future larger than one relationship

Education, friendship, honest work, caring for children, serving God and developing skills all belong to a meaningful life. Proverbs 24 presents the image of rising despite adversity, not as permission to return repeatedly to danger, but as encouragement to continue living wisely. One small responsible choice can be the beginning of a new chapter.

Put the Word into practice

Identify one part of your life that has been neglected while you have been grieving. Choose a small, safe step to care for it this week.

Questions for reflection

  • Have I allowed someone else’s choices to define my identity?
  • What do I need to grieve before rushing into the next stage?
  • Who can support my recovery without judging or pressuring me?

Prayer

Father, restore hope where trust has been wounded. Help us see ourselves with the dignity You have given, seek wise support and rebuild without fear or shame. Amen.

Theos transformation takeaway: A broken promise can damage your plans, but it cannot erase the dignity God gives you.
